President's Message

2021/2022 proved to be another year of change, transition, and uncertainty for many in our industry, including our association. Recovery from the lockdown restrictions of the pandemic and a transition back to the office environment for many of our members required that our Board be prepared to respond to changes in presentation formats, venue, attendance, and even cancellation of planned events. A set of very interesting, and sometimes complicating challenges, and I am very grateful to be able to say that our Board was creatively persistent, or persistently creative, in working through whatever the situation threw at us. Though we did have to defer some popular social events and maybe a few luncheons, our directors responsible for the Education, EMS, Seminars, Luncheons, and Social Events portfolios, have continued to bring timely and topical events to our members, although on a reduced schedule than in previous years.

Our fiscal year end results also reflect the challenges that our association faced in the past year, including lower membership numbers, lower attendance at fewer events, and lower numbers of educational program students. Despite these challenges, we were able to adhere to our budget and end the year with a surplus, versus the shortfall that we had predicted at the beginning of the year.

With the outlook for the 2022/2023 year appearing to hold a somewhat different set of challenges for us to navigate, the Board plans to continue its path of offering relevant and current educational and social content to our membership, updated and, in some cases, new model agreements, increased collaborations with other industry organizations, and some completely new material that is in the beginning stages of development.

Going into the 2022/2023 board year, we find ourselves with several chairs at the table that need people in them. If you have any curiosity about or interest in filling one of these chairs or know of someone else who you think would be good in a role, please reach out to any of the directors on the 2022/2023 board and just mention it. We would love to chat with you!

With Best Wishes for a prosperous and successful year,

Helen O'Brien
PJVA Vice President

Tracking the Hydrogen Fuel Future
Hydrogen is a carbon-free, energy-dense fuel but traditionally accessing hydrogen has a high cost, complexity, and high carbon intensity. Alberta technology is solving the hydrogen challenge using the reservoir to contain the process - dramatically reducing the capital required at surface. Find out how companies can use an H2 process that can be applied to current infrastructure and equipment investments to reduce costs and reach for not only net zero, but negative emissions.
